An elegant and eye catching vintage mansion built in the early 1800s, WelcomHeritage Panjim Peoples was till recently home to the Peoples High School, Goa's premier English educational institution and alma mater to many of the state's prominent citizens. Opposite the Panjim Inn and prominently visible as you stroll down 31st January Road, it is now a Heritage Hotel and houses the inhouse Art Gallery Gitanjali.
Painstaking restoration of the building has brought back some of its original grandeur and helped recapture the nostalgia, poignance and aura of the romantic Past.
Close your eyes and imagine that that modern day cars and rickshaws no longer exist and you can go back to a Romantic era of old world elegance, of horse drawn carriages, of ladies in voluminous skirts and gentlemen in three piece suits who the heat and dust notwithstanding would have curtseyed or doffed their hats to each other before moving on.
On the first floor there are 4 exclusive and spacious heritage rooms about 30-40 square metres in size. The rooms are furnished with top quality antique furniture: Four Poster double/single beds in Rosewood, Almirahs, Divans, dressing tables, gilded pelmets, original art, planters chairs & lace curtains.
Modern toilets are worked in a delicate mosaic and have individual bathtubs.
The ground floor houses the Gallery Gitanjali showcasing Paintings by Contemporary Indian and Overseas Artists.
The Casino Royale and Goa's Unique River Boat Casinos are walking distance from the Panjim People's. With Live entertainment, Roulette, Blackjack and Gaming tables they promise a fun filled evening for those who fancy a Flutter.
