Gallery Gitanjali

In-house to the Panjim Inn, the Panjim Pousada and the Panjim People's; original work by Local and Overseas artists sprawl over the entire premises. They spill across corridors and public areas and even extend to Guest Rooms. A striking display area is the Chowk of the Pousada where paintings are hung across the white walls of the Verandah circling the Tulus. The brown terracotta double tiles of the Verandah Roof, the granite mosaic floor and a curious mix of artificial and natural light filtering through the open “Chowk” has a surreal effect on the Art on display.

Painters on exhibit include Vamona Navelcar, Mohan Naik, Suhas Shilker, Praveen Naik, Sadguru and Veenita Chendvankar, Sonia Rodrigues Sabharwhal, Francis D’Souza, Jayashree Patankar, Dietrich Kerky, Shri Shail , Rafael Arya and known Gond & Bhil artists. They have won Acclaim Locally and some are well Known Overseas, having had successful shows sbroad as well. Work at the Gallery is Abstract and Realistic in colour and oil, including collages and landscapes.

The gallery also exhibits a large collection of Scandinavian art from the 50's to the 90's including lithographs, serigraphs, linocuts, woodcuts and etchings .

Over the years the gallery has evolved into a central cultural space, offering an alternative art studio, a cafe and a conference / workshop venue. Gallery Gitanjali hosts several events and workshops throughout the year, including art history and film appreciation courses, book & poetry readings, book launches, art and theatre workshops, art performances, as well as talks on conservation and environmental concerns.

The gallery café has been envisioned as a space for people to come by to browse through books, play board-games or enjoy an espresso amidst an inspirational world of art. The 'Aangan' at the 'Pousada' offers a studio for alternative art, where courses are facilitated on the art of ' seeing' and expressing on canvas and paper, employing avant-garde methodologies.

For six months the Panjim Inn has been my home - and a wonderfully welcoming and comforting home. It has been, as a refuge from distressing circumstances outside. People say "You won't ever want to come to Goa, again after what you've been through". But my answer is that I could happily retire here, thanks to my experience of the Panjim Inn.

Having arrived feeling tired and fairly fed up with travel in India, we leave after a week with only one regret - that we can't stay longer. Lovely building, beautifully maintained and very clean - a real delight. We found staff and management helpful, friendly. Knowledgeable without even being pushy. Keep up the good work, we look forward to visiting again during the dry season too!

We will be missing Goa many times in the future.Thank you for all your hospitality and kindness. As you said, your place felt more like home than a hotel.

Absolutely beautiful, I would come back to Goa just to stay at Panjim Inn again. This experience shall reach the far away realms of New York City and Mexico through our (my) telling. Keep it as it is. Thank you!

A surprising, wonderful and entertaining establishment. Encouraging to see preservation rather than modernisation. Best wishes for the future and thanks to the friendly staff. I hope to return again.
